My sister thinks that she's discovered a new and very very rare plant variety.
I on the other hand think it's the weed Datura.
To save my sister from thinking of a Latin name for this plant can anyone identify this plant.
Will she listen to her younger brother - NO
(Not my photos by the way)

It does look rather like Nicandra physaloides, Neil. I've seen this question crop up elsewhere and wonder if the seed is being put in bird food.

Neil, I am the youngest and my older siblings are way way older than me and never ever listen to my good advice i suspect that your older sister is the same, so tell her that she has indeed discovered a very very rare and valuable plant and that you have contacted a large seed company and they wish to have seed collected from this very precious plant and they are willing to pay to her a six figure sum for the first batch of seed, now to collect the seed and create the right conditions tell her that she needs your help advice and guidance and then offer to help her achieve cult status throughout the world of horticulture she is bound to be excited then persuade her to bring the plant to you because you have got the ideal conditiopns in your greenhouse fancy lights heaters etc.. then get it potted up in your greenhouse water it etc.. do this for a couple of days let your sister get really excited making plans for a new villa in spain all the buisness, then when she is due to come round to yours one day spray the entire plant with glyphosate or sodium chlorate and you will be able for once to get your own back when you see the look of total dissapointment on your big sisters face when all the plans go swiftly down the pan!!!!! thats my advice mate she will probably never bother you again..

Yes the Thorn Apple or Angel's Trumpet IS a Datura, but Miranda is right (again) and this is a Nicandra physalodes or physaloides or Shoofly or Apple-of-Peru. I had no idea they grew so tall.

Hi Miranda,
Thank you for the correct ID. You are right of course
I'll let my sister know that it's not the rarest plant on the planet.
Ha, a shame really.
It does look rather like Nicandra physaloides, Neil. I've seen this question crop up elsewhere and wonder if the seed is being put in bird food.
