I've added a time-lapse of a fungi called an earthtar (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXl15ajao4Q).
The outer coat splits open to reveal the puffball within. When it rains, the raindrops falling on the puffball forces the spores to be ejected and carried away in the wind.
People used to think the unopened earthstars were wild daffodil bulbs and planted them in their garden. They didn't turn into daffodils
