The plant shown in the photo grows well in my garden - light sandy soil, close to the coast. It is perenial and very attractive .. but what is it?

The plant grows with some 30 fleshy stems about 60cm high with narrow leaves approx 30-35 cm long. The flower head consists of about 25 small flowers each on individual stems. The flower is brilliant purple and when fully open in day time these are up to 2cm diamer. Each individual flower has 3 petals.

Thank you

Davey

Your plant is tradescantia, the variety is from the andersoniana group and I think it is probably 'Purple dome' , if you like these plants you must try the the white variety 'osprey and the lilac' Jc weguelin', hope this helps:D

Thank You. Yes, that is the plant. Interesting to know there are other shades of flower colour including white. These plants grow so well on my sandy soil garden I may well invest in a couple of variants
