It looks like an Arisaema, but I don't know which one; possibly one of the Sino-Himalayan type.
Arisaemas grow from large tubers so it's interesting that it got into your garden.

This is an amazing plant. It's common name is the Dracular plant. It has a gorgeous colour but the black spike has a very unpleasant small which is used to attract flies.
This plant will appear in the Complete Gardens 3,500 version.
I have mine in a pot and it sent up a tiny spike this year but hasn't grown any further so I think you're very lucky that your plant just grew out of the soil. I would not suggest you keep this plant near your back door or windows as the small is that of rotting flesh.
The Red cape lasted quite a while and the smell did go after a day or two.
I hope this helps.

That's fascinating, Neil, apart from the smell, which is unfortunate. I've never seen one before and it looked like an Arisaema to me. I wonder how it got into the garden?

I spoke to Jacque Amand when I was exhibiting at Hampton Court Flower Show this year and he told me that Dracunculus vulgaris is also called Arum dracunculus but is not an Arisaema.
I hope this helps
