Hiya folks,

I have a Lilac tree in perfect health in my garden :)

Problem lies with the Norwich Union who have loaded my buildings insurance subsidence excess to £5,000 because I mentioned I had a Lilac tree within 9 metres of my house.

When asked why, they replied "Lilac isn't on our list" !!!!

Could anyone please tell me what the root structure is for a Lilac, with maybe a link to an appropriate site that will reassure the Norwich Union that my house won't fall down due to the lovely Lilac :)

Thanks a lot,

Steve (BigYesFan)

Did you ask them what list?

I'm using a broker, but I assumed it was a list of trees that are known for causing subsidence, willow, Firs etc...

My broker pointed out the fact that if it's not on your list, then surely the Lilac isn't a problem. It's gone to head office for a 'grown-up' to make a decision !!

They're certainly not quoting me happy !!!! :)

You could try telling you broker to find another insurance company.
