Is this a weed ?

We recently moved to a house with quite a large garden and there are now things popping out of the ground all over the place. As we are not experienced gardeners we don't have a clue what most of them are. Any help with this one please would be appreciated

Hi Ralf Wiggum,
It is not a weed but a Delphinium, it will be out in a couple of weeks.
The garden looks very nice from what I can see from the picture.
