New to lawn care...problem, any advice

Hmm...we had a good lawn 2 years ago...everything died pretty much. I think it was a problem with grubs, noting all the beetles flying around everywhere last summer. Anyway my lawn is all dead and pale. It is about an acre and obviously it needs reseeding. So apparently I need to get a de-thatching machine, then clean up after it, and then reseed. At least I think thats what I need to do..(?)

Do I have to lightly cover the new seed? How often to water?

My lawn has looked like that in the past but I've never re-seeded it. I just put the sprinkler on and it soon starts to look nice again.

What does the lawn look like now and what have you done? As it is now May and I was wondering if it had recovered.
