I'm having a go with something called Oca (Oxalis tuberosa) this year. It's a root from south America which was originally grown by the Inca but is still grown a lot today in Peru. They look a bit like small pink fir apples and are supposed to taste like lemony potatoes. There's some more info here:

Hi , Just thought I would let you know that I grew oca Oxalis tuberosum last year and just harvested the crop in January. I grew them in a polytunnel as they dont start producing tubers until after the autumn eqinox and they are not frost hardy.I planted about 3-5 tubers per planting hole depending on their size . The foliage gets pretty big so a good 12" between plants is good. At harvest I had lots of small tubers and a few bigger ones but they all taste delicious! They are also a beautiful colour. If they are left outside in hot sun for a day or two they become very sweet and are very tasty. Unfortunately I am not going to grow them this year as they take up alot of space for a long time :( Then again a few in big pots that I could bring indoors might be a plan:)
I have some spare tubers if anyones want to try.
