Does anyone here have any Welsh Onions (Allium fistulosum)? I know they aren't impossible to buy over the Net but not every garden centre sells them. I grew them many years ago after someone gave me a small clump. For those who don't know, they grow a bit like spring onions and you just pull off a small onion from the clump when you need it. If I can get hold of a small clump, I'll be able to start them off again.:)

Hi Paul, Try at the NVS website www.nvsuk.org.uk (http://www.nvsuk.org.uk). If you don't have any luck (people don't use the site much) I am at a meeting of the Northern Branch on the 14th of this month and I can ask around when I get there if you like. I would think if anyone can find some it will be through the NVS.

Me again, in the T&M catalogue they have a similar type of onion used like a spring onion They call it "feast" on page 126 of this years catalogue.

Thanks Digger, I'm not sure their 'Feast F1 Hybrid' is the same as Welsh Onions, mind you there seem to be lots of different bunching onion types. I think the big thing with the true Welsh Onion is that it's hardy and you can keep pulling onions as and when they are required.

I really don't know why they aren't more popular and freely available as I remember them to be really tasty, just right in a cheese sandwich ;-)

MMMM, Soft cheese on home made bread with chives (if you can't get the onions). I shall ask at the meeting on the 14th,if someone doesn't have some I am sure they can find someone somewhere who will have some, in fact if some of the onions cannot be found via the NVS the entire society will be in deep shame.

I have found a source for seeds, not 100yds from my old school in Broadstairs of 45yrs ago. We are going to our very first meeting of the local horticutural society tonight where a talk on planting in containers is taking place. It seems I must now add 'old' to 'bore' now ;-)

Hi Paul
Don't know whether you will have had any luck with these yet - but I have some seeds which someone gave me last year and I never got round to sowing them. You're welcome to them if you haven't found any elsewhere.

Thank you Rachel but when I was down in Broadstairs that day, I called in and bought a couple of packets, £1 each if I remember. I must get around to sowing them too (along with a whole host of other seeds I've accumulated).
