Has anyone grown these ? If so a) what types b) in the soil or pots c) what yield did you get ? d) how quickly e) what rootstock are they

Sorry I can't help you there, londongardener. Sue has some small apple trees and she may be able to help you.
I think minarettes are grown on M27 rootstock which means they won't get bigger than about 4ft, which is plenty small enough for a large container. I'd use a loam based compost myself.

We have one dwarf apple tree in the garden, it is a Golden Delicious and was planted in 2000/1 in the soil. For the first couple of years any fruit was very tiny and sparse, then each new year it produced more sizeable fruits. This year it is absolutely laden with apples which will soon be ready for harvesting, I think the wet summer has shown that in the past the tree has just not received enough water. It has stood at about 4.5 feet for the last couple of years. I don't know which rootstock it is on (sorry). If you have room in the ground, it would be better for the tree than in a pot as we made a raised bed about 6 feet away from the tree and some of it's roots had spread into that part when we were digging it over.
