Monkey Puzzle tree problem

Hello

I planted a Monkey puzzle tree last year.

The soil is well drained,slightly acid and in a semi shaded spot.

It has now turned brown, does this mean it has died?

I hope someone knows the answer and is able to advise me.

My book 'The MacDonald Encyclopedia of Trees' says that "The Monkey Puzzle Tree (Araucaria araucana) whilst extremely hardy MUST be protected from intense cold for the first two or three years". Did you lose it when it failed to get through last winter?
