I had a great trip up north to Newcastle.
I went up by train and thought the countryside was stunning. I was delighted to see rolling hills with dry stone walling and hedges partitioning fields.
The architecture in the centre of Newcastle was very grand (though I got lost in a shopping arcade and appeared again three streets from where I went in) Needing a drink the Newcastle Ale turned out to be as good as I remember.
Fabulous people, place & countryside and long may it last.

Glad you enjoyed yourself, Neil.

I stayed in Jesmond a few times and enjoyed the park there. It was the middle of winter and the stream that ran through the park had icicles hanging all along the edge of it. Very pretty.

Hi all, I have only been up to Newcastle once i don't like that horrible sculpture "angel of the north" but i used to be very fond of the Newcastle brown ale, up here if we want it in a bar we ask for "A bottle of Newcy brown" and it should really be drunk straight from the bottle, but that is now a mere memory for me now a days.:-(

We have just moved to Northumberland, about 40 miles from Newcastle, and love it. We live on a farm 6 1/2 miles from the nearest village. We have three large gardens to clear that have been neglected for years; challenging, but very rewarding. Needless to say, I will be posting many request for help!! I agree digger, the Angel of the North is not my cup of tea either.
