Make a list up, Cheyenne, and put it on the seed swap thread. I'm sure everyone will be interested to see what you've got. I certainly will.

I'll make a new list up as well.

Hi Miranda, sue1002, digger :)
Have any of you Made up a Plant list yet i posted my Quick List in the Plant Swap Thread and have since been working on my Full Plant List. I have also been to the Plant Nursery today and have New Plant's to add to my list. I also like a challenge when growing or looking after my Plant's so sometimes i pick up Really sick Plant's at a Plant Nursery's or Garden centers and then bring them back from the brink of Death do any of you do the same. I also like to pick up a Good Plant Bargain. :)

Hi Cheyenne, I will have more of an idea once the plants have flowered and seeds collected later on in the summer and will make up a list of what is available then.

I have been known to pick up perennial plants from garden centres at the end of their growing season which have survived another year but if I see any that look past it when others of the same variety are all healthy I do tend to steer clear of the unhealthy looking ones.

Hi Sue1002 :)
Let me know when you do your List Sue1002 Thank You. What i sometimes do when at the Plant Nursery or Garden Center is i look in the section that has Reduced Sick or Nearly Dead Plant's as the Prices for theses Plants are usually under £2.00 so i pick up Sick plants at Bargain prices and just sometimes the Nursery haven't watered them Enough or watered them Properly and sometimes there not as sick first look. The other day i picked up 4Lavender - Hidote - Evergreen in 2 litre pots for £3.92 so they were 98 pence each and all they needed was Pruned and they had some slugs in the dead wood area which i Removed they are now healthy Plant's anyway let me know if your Interested in anything. I will post a Complete Plant List over the weekend. Have a nice weekend :)

I can see problems sending cuttings by post. How well would they travel? Mind you I did buy in the spring three tiny bare-rooted roses from a nursery in California and they soon bucked up and have flowered.
For cheap plants we tend to go to a local school fete where plants cost pennies. I also visit a local one-man nursery where clematis, for instance, cost £2.99 each and he has a vast range of them. Notcutts is like an expensive exhibition which I wander round to get ideas of what to buy elsewhere.
I do a lot of swopping with gardening friends. I've just grown a large number of Morning Glory 'Grandpa Otts' and just about every seed has germinated. So I've been giving these away too.

Cuttings travel by post surprisingly well Paul, Miranda and I have swapped some and they have arrived in perfect condition, just wrap them up with a little soil inside a plastic bag or bubble wrap and put inside a small box just big enough so they don't rattle around too much and they are ok.

Hi sue1002, I am at the moment attempting to strike a cutting of arctic queen for you mate as soon as it is ready i shall post it straight away.

Miranda

Yes, Paul, they do travel surprisingly well and the plants I've had from Sue have been just fine. The furthest a plant has travelled to me was from Finland - two rooted cuttings of Citrus hystrix - and those were fine too.

As far as buying sick looking plants goes, I'm loath to do that as I don't want to introduce any unwanted viruses or pathogens in to the garden. I always go for healthy looking plants.

Thanks digger, the cuttings I took last week of the Avant Garde still look healthy, none have died off yet anyway, I also took a couple of the C. cirrhosa 'Wisley Cream' after I inadvertently broke the top off whilst training a wild piece into the archway.

Hi Paul & Everyone
As Miranda and Sue1002 already said cutting travel well. I used to send cuttings down to one of my Sisters that live in England all the time and they Traveled without any problems even just wrapping them in Damp Kitchen roll and then in a small plastic bag and inserting them in a Padded envelope and posting them they Arrived in perfect condition weather they had roots on them or not. It's a good way of getting Plants that are not really expensive as some Gardeners can't afford to spend lots of money on Plant's. I find it really hard Not to buy Plant's while out at Garden centers or Nurserys.

Well thanks for that advice, it's nice to know they travel so well. I think I'd be happier getting them rooted first before posting them off.

I'd be interested to hear how your cuttings and seed swap has been going.
What are your successes and were there any failures?

Were there any problems with sending by post?

They've been going fine thanks Neil. I've swapped seeds with others and am now enjoying seeing the little seedlings coming up.

I haven't had any problems with either seeds or small plants through the post, they travel quite well.

Everything I've had through swaps has been great, Neil.

Sue and I have sent one another a few little plants as well, and those have gone through the post fine, as long as they're well wrapped up. It's lovely to get seeds and plants in the post from the person who has grown them :-)

The furthest I've ever received a plant from was Finland. It was a rooted cutting of a lime plant and the person had wrapped it very carefully and packed it in a candle box. That was about five years ago and the plant is still going.

Are you tempted to join in, then, Neil?
